What is automatic gain control or AGC?

AGC (Automatic Gain Control )

Is the automatic regulation (electronically) of the gain of a receiver in inverse proportion to the received signal strength. This allows, within certain limits, the audio output of a receiver to remain relatively constant over a range of fading signal conditions.
